Gouge Away
I've started working on a new relief print. This is the first block carved. I have two more blocks to do for the other colors. John had to spend the night in the hospital on Sunday because of some residual tummy surgery stuff, (He's fine), and I couldn't sleep so I stayed up all night carving. My hands were numb in the morning. I think I'm going to take some time carving the other blocks so my fingers don't fall off, but I'm happy with the design so far.
A is for Augur
Second proof, first block
9"x12" printed on hot press paper
Wow... This is amazing, it's got so much movement in it and the eyes are so expressive even though they're closed. Dream like. I'd have it on my wall. I could look at it for a long long time...
ReplyDeleteIntriguing. Is she eating or regurgitating the bird? Or is that question the mystery of the work?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the encouragement and nice comments! I'm currently playing with different registration techniques before I commit to digging in to the next block, I want it to be perfect. I'm excited to share the progress.
ReplyDeleteBobbi Pohl- I think it's more coughing the bird out. Nearly choking on it. In Livy's War With Hannibal, he often refers to augurs with the phrase "Taking the auspices." It reminded me of "take your medicine." I imagine that if one could truly divine the will of the gods, it would be a highly distressing and overwhelming experience
i'm amazed. and so excited to see this in process.
ReplyDeleteHi Penny,
ReplyDeleteI am glad John is okay. I look at this new posting and I almost pee my pants it so exciting. Really, this is one damn fine piece.
